Michael Bay Panics at Samsung CES Show

Director leaves stage after teleprompter fails

Hollywood director Michael Bay just freaked out at a Samsung presentation in Las Vegas. The Transformers director walked off stage after a teleprompter malfunction left him for a loss for words. Samsung is known for hosting scripted events with big star personalities.

Last year, supermodel Kate Upton was among the celebrities pitching Samsung TVs in New York City. These press gatherings are choreographed, and the participating stars read their lines.

Today, at the Consumer Electronics Show, Bay got flustered and couldn't keep it together, preferring to just walk off the stage after the teleprompter failed him.

The emcee tried to get Bay to wing it, but the director appeared to panic and slunk off stage.

Samsung was trying to show off its curved-design TV and position it as a new screen form for watching action movies with big budget special effects, the kind Bay produces.

There are typically few unscripted moments at the electronics show, in which the biggest tech companies vie for attention with bolder and grander presentations.

Samsung is about the biggest electronics maker at the event—especially since Apple doesn’t have an official presence—and its media demonstrations are among the most widely attended at the weeklong trade show.

Samsung has been showing off next generation Smart TVs and tablets among other innovations. One of its most buzzed about products was a Galaxy TabPro tablet, which is a supersized 12.2 inches.
