Can We Talk? Melissa Rivers Does Mom Proud at 92nd Street Y

Promo tour for The Book of Joan leads to wonderful session with Hoda Kotb.

The full video of Tuesday’s conversation is now online and it’s a treat.

Rivers has been making the rounds to promote The Book of Joan. This is one of the most entertaining conversations we’ve seen, not just because the video is longer than most shared clips, but also because Rivers seems very much at ease with her interviewer, Today’s Hoda Kotb.

Bookmark and enjoy, either now or after reading the new tome about mom. One of our favorite parts of the 92nd Street Y talk was this happier-days Johnny Carson memory:

“For his birthday that year, my parents came up with the idea of giving me to Johnny. So they dressed me up and sent me with the nanny, and with a note pinned to me saying: “Dear Mr. Carson, my parents don’t know how to thank you for everything you’ve done in their lives, so they wanted to give you their most prized possession: me.’

Reportedly, Carson held Melissa throughout a subsequent Tonight Show writers’ meeting. On a different note, Rivers revealed to Kotb how angry mom privately remained about Edgar’s suicide.
