Media Responds to Steve Bannon’s Attack on Media

"Keep its mouth shut" isn't in the job description.

You would think that someone who used to be the chairman of Breitbart Media would want to defend the first amendment, rather than telling the New York Times in an interview today that the media should “keep its mouth shut.”

But then again, we can maybe see how Steve Bannon, someone who framed his former organization as a “platform” for a particular set of views, i.e the blend of racism, populism and white nationalism that is the “alt-right” would assume that all other media organizations exist to propagate a particular set of political beliefs or fulfill a political purpose. This is the impression given by his comments to the Times regarding the media.

“The media should be embarrassed and humiliated and keep its mouth shut and just listen for awhile,” he told Michael Grynbaum. And also, “I want you to quote this. The media here is the opposition party. They don’t understand this country. They still do not understand why Donald Trump is the president of the United States.”

Since the media does not exist to keep its mouth shut, here were some initial responses to Bannon’s comments.
