Media People On The Move

Political blogger Dave Weigel of The Washington Independent will join The Washington Post April 5, FishbowlDC reports.

The Post memo says, in part: “Weigel’s work has taken him inside the world of Obama detractors and given him a front-row seat watching the remaking of the Republican Party. He covered the 2008 presidential campaign, notably Ron Paul’s movement, for the libertarian magazine Reason. His work has appeared in a wide range of publications including The Economist, the Los Angeles Times, The American Prospect, Washington Monthly, Slate, The American Conservative and The American Spectator.”

Danielle Matoon at the New York Times has been promoted to travel editor; that leaves a deputy editor opening at the paper’s Arts & Leisure section, reports FishbowlNY.

And the USC Annenberg Center for Health Reporting has just named five staff members to staff the California HealthCare Foundation Center for Health Reporting: David Westphal, former Washington editor for McClatchy Newspapers, will be the center’s editor in chief. Richard Kipling, with 24 years of experience at the LAT, will serve as managing editor. Emily Bazar, John Gonzales, and Deborah Schoch round out the list as senior writers. (Romenesko)
