Parties, panels and other notable media gatherings

[Important Update! Due to Bad Intel — that skunky beer of the Internet party — we initially published the wrong date for this shindig. Please note that the party doesn’t get started until next Friday, Feb. 12. Sorry if you got all gussied up for nothing.]SATURDAY 02.10.07

WHAT: Create Fixate
WHEN: 7:00PM
WHERE: Art Gallery, 1530 Ivar Ave.
WHY YOU SHOULD GO: An opening night party featuring live bands, DJs, art installations and some of LA’s most interesting visual artists’ works. Plus, the theme of the party is Love/Beauty/Desire, so you really can’t go wrong.
NOTE: $15 cover for the party.

SUNDAY 02.04.07

WHAT: John Waters CD signing
WHO: Um, John Waters. Duh.
WHEN: 6 p.m.
WHERE: Amoeba Records on Sunset
WHY YOU SHOULD GO: The CD is called “A Date With John Waters.” So if you go to Amoeba when he’s there, you could actually have a kind-of date with John Waters! He’ll sign your CD, take your photo with you (if you’re among the first 200 to buy the thing)and confirm to the tabloids that he gave you an STD*. (*That last fact isn’t cq).

MONDAY 02.05.07

WHAT: Writing your 2,000-word application for the TV Drama Writer’s Room Two-Day Intensive Workshop.
WHO: Aury Wallington, who’s written for Sex and the City, Veronica Mars and much, much more is teaching the class on Feb. 10 and 11.
WHEN: Saturday, Feb. 10, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. (break for lunch) and Sunday, Feb. 11, 12 p.m.-4 p.m.
WHERE: West Hollywood
WHY YOU SHOULD GO: Because writing for television is just the kind of stable work your mother always wanted you to get into.
