McGraw-Hill Cuts 550

McGraw-Hill’s cut 550 jobs, or 2.8 percent of its total workforce. Most of those cuts are in its education segment, but 125 jobs were cut in its Information & Media segment which includes BusinessWeek and JD Power & Associates.

The Info & Media cuts were, a release says (scroll wayyy down), driven by ” shifting of resources to continue strengthening the company’s digital offerings, as well as the consolidation and automation of certain functions to enable a better customer experience, greater coordination and faster execution, all while mitigating the impact of the current economic conditions.”

Gawker reports that of the 340 jobs cut in education, most are in the textbook division, 40 copyeditors in NY were cut and the LA textbook office will close.
