Matt Bean Staffs Up at Entertainment Weekly

Entertainment Weekly’s new editor Matt Bean is continuing to staff up at the Time Inc. title. Last week, he tapped Kyle Ryan of The Onion A.V. Club as editor of; today, he announced a new round of hires and promotions in a memo to staffers.

Kristen Baldwin, the magazine’s executive editor for integrated content (and’s Bachelor/Bachelorette recapper), has been promoted to deputy editor. Baldwin, a 20-year EW veteran, replaces Henry Goldblatt, who left last month to join former EW editor Jess Cagle at People as deputy editor and brand director.

“Kristen stewarded our industry-leading TV coverage as the small screen exploded in importance, and as the rise of streaming and cable programming shifted paradigms and disrupted industries,” Bean wrote. “She has also helped to guide our print/digital integration strategies over the past few years. Both are crucial paths for Entertainment Weekly going forward.”

Other promotions include Meeta Agrawal, who was promoted from assistant managing editor to executive editor, TV, and Sean Smith, the magazine’s Los Angeles bureau chief, who will relocate to New York as EW’s new executive editor, film.

In the new hire department, Danielle Nussbaum has been named senior West Coast editor. Nussbaum was most recently the entertainment director at Clique Media, which owns fashion and lifestyle sites WhoWhatWear, Byrdie and Domaine Home. Prior to that, she spent six years overseeing entertainment coverage at Teen Vogue.

Bean, who was officially named editor in February, has already made headlines with some major staff restructuring, most notably a round of layoffs in which Owen Gleiberman, EW’s longtime film critic (and one of the magazine’s best-known names), was let go along with music critic Nick Catucci and staff writer Annie Barrett.
