Mary Shelley Story Comes To Life In New Animated Book

The New York Public Library has made an animated adaptation of author Mary Shelley’s short story called Mounseer Nongtongpaw, or the Discoveries of John Bull in a Trip to Paris. The Frankenstein author’s anarchist father William Godwin published the story in 1808 when Shelley was only ten years old. Enjoy the animation in the embedded video above.

NYPL’s in-house digital producer Jonathan Blanc put the video together as a way to promote a new exhibit called Shelley’s Ghost at Oxford University’s Bodleian Library. The exhibit will come to NYPL in 2012.

Charles Carter, a librarian from the Pforzheimer Collection at the NYPL, said that the idea came about as a way to adapt the book into an electronic format.
