The 2013 Oxford Dictionaries word of the year was selfie, which Instagram commemorated last November with some of the best uses of the #selfie hashtag on the Facebook-owned photo-sharing network.
However, the selfie was around long before Instagram. Marketing automation software provider Marketo traced the history of the selfie in the infographic below, going all the way back to Vincent Van Gogh, and Marketo also offered a list of the most common types of selfies.
