Political reporter Manu Raju is the latest Politico turncoat to jump ship to CNN, announced Washington deputy bureau chief Virginia Moseley and executive editor Rachel Smolkin in a staff memo Tuesday morning.
“Manu, now a senior congressional reporter at Politico, will use his expertise and tremendous reporting skills to straddle the worlds of Congress and politics,” wrote Moseley and Smolkin in the memo. “He’ll focus on the senators who are running for president and also will work with our fabulous congressional team to bring us high-impact, behind-the-scenes reporting on Congress as we embark on an eventful and consequential fall.”
In addition to appearing on TV, Raju’s political coverage will extend to the digital medium as he will be writing for CNN Politics.
The move is part of a continuing trend of POLITICOs turned CNNers. In the past year alone, the network has seen its ranks swell by 12 from the Arlington-based publication — with a growing list that includes Rachel Smolkin, Eric Bradner, Jedd Rosche, Steven Sloan, Dianna Heitz, MJ Lee, Hilary Krieger, Daniella Diaz, Alysha Love, Gregg Birnbaum, last month’s addition of Tal Kopan, and the most recent hire, Manu Raju.
Raju will join CNN’s Washington bureau starting September 8.
