I wondered what traditional GPS makers were thinking as their first iPhone apps appeared. They were priced somewhat high ($80 to $100) and competed with their hardware products which didn’t cost much more than the app in some cases. Today, however, TomTom’s turn-by-turn GPS app is priced at $49.99 while Navigon’s is $59.99. Magellan’s update iPhone navigation app was just updated and is also priced at a $59.99…

But, like the other traditional GPS firms moving into the nav app space, Magellan has its hardware add-on plan in place now with its $129.99 GPS receiver cradle accessory that enhances the iPhone’s own GPS and provides iPod touch (2nd generation or newer) owners with the option of using their non-phone device as a navigation device.
