Macro Cash for Microblogging Software Co. StatusNet

The company that TechCrunch says wants to become the WordPress of microblogging now has $875,000 more with which to do so, as StatusNet closed an $875,000 seed round from investors including Montreal Start Up, iNovia Capital, Fotolia co-founder Oleg Tscheltzoff and Xavier Niel.

StatusNet created open-source microblogging software platform laconi.ca, since renamed status.net, which users can download and run on their own servers, and the company is working on a hosted version that is currently in private beta, TechCrunch reported.
