Toronto Gallery Celebrates Ron Artest

There is seemingly no end to the ways in which wacky Lakers ambassador Ron Artest can be propagated. Along with today’s news of Ron-Ron’s new hip hop label partnership with San Francisco’s SMC Records, there’s the matter of this weekend’s Toronto art gallery show.

Timed to coincide with Sunday’s away game between the Lakers and Raptors, the Saturday, December 18th opening was independently organized by local fan (and cartoonist) Steve Manale. Basically, more than two dozen artists were commissioned to create works that in one way or another channel No. 15.

“Lovable BADASS – Artists on Ron Artest” is being presented in the fashionable Queen Street West downtown area at NARWHAL Art Projects. A pair of tickets to the Sunday NBA game will be raffled, against the backdrop of a playlist that humorously speaks to Ron’s burgeoning music mogul status:

DJ Ali Cat will be spinning all of Ron’s favorites: Tupac, Slick Rick, Nas, Scarface, Biggy, Lil Wayne, Eminem and CELINE DION.

Wish we could be there.

Update – 12/19/10: True to form, Artest showed up during Saturday’s opening to check out the tribute art. Manale tells FBLA he purchased a piece by Steve Kwok entitled “Ron Artest and his Puppies.”
