LinkedIn Skill Assessments Will Help Members Strut Their Stuff

Early results showed that those who passed were about 30% more likely to get hired

LinkedIn began rolling out LinkedIn Skill Assessments as a new way for members to validate skills they possess, showcase their proficiency and become more discoverable to opportunities.

The professional network said in a blog post Tuesday that early results showed that candidates who completed LinkedIn Skill Assessments were about 30% more likely to get hired, adding that its research found that 69% of professionals believe their skills are more important than college education when job seeking, and over 76% wish there was a way for hiring managers to verify their skills so that they can stand out.

LinkedIn said each LinkedIn Skill Assessment is developed in partnership with LinkedIn Learning industry and subject matter experts “through a rigorous content creation and review process.”

Members can scroll to the skill section of their profile and choose one of the available LinkedIn Skill Assessments. Results are kept private to that member.

Those who pass (70th percentile or above) can add a verified skill badge to their profile, which will be seen in LinkedIn Recruiter and LinkedIn Jobs so that employers can identify and verify skill proficiency.


And those who come up short have complete control over the visibility of their results, and they can try again at some point.

Free relevant LinkedIn Learning courses will be made available to all members who complete LinkedIn Skill Assessments, regardless of the outcome.

The professional network added that LinkedIn Skill Assessments will roll out in the coming weeks covering skills such as coding languages (C++), design software (Adobe Photoshop) and everyday business tools (Microsoft Excel), with the selection to continue expanding.

LinkedIn said in its blog post, “At LinkedIn, we want everyone to have access to opportunities based on the skills they have, regardless of their background or where they went to school. That’s why we’re excited to roll out LinkedIn Skill Assessments.”
