LinkedIn Pulled the Plug on 21.6 Million Fake Accounts in the First Half of 2019

98% of them were uncovered via the professional network’s automated defenses

LinkedIn said it took action on 21.6 million fake accounts during the first half of 2019.

Head of trust and safety Paul Rockwell said in a blog post that the professional network prevented 19.5 million of those accounts from being created at registration, meaning that they were stopped automatically and never appeared on LinkedIn.

He added that 2 million more were restricted prior to being reported by members, with help from artificial intelligence and machine learning tools, and some 67,000 were removed following reports by members.

Rockwell wrote, “We want to make sure our community continues to be a valuable resource for you; one that creates opportunities to find jobs, make connections and grow careers.
