Line is a messenger app from Japan that makes more money each month from selling stickers than most startups in their entire lifetime. On average, the messenger app rakes in about $10 million in sticker sales.

Back in May, Line introduced the Line Creators Market, where users can upload, create and sell custom stickers to other users. To date, 149,000 users have signed up for this additional service from 124 different countries. Line revealed that it has received 30,000 stickers submissions, of which 10,000 sets are being sold in various countries where the market is available. From that, the app has sold 12.41 million sets totaling ¥1.23 billion — or $11.9 million.

Custom Line stickers are sold as sets of 40 at ¥100 per set. That’s approximately $1, with half of the proceeds staying with the company. Users can expect to make more than just small pocket change: over half of the sticker sets have earned at least ¥10,000, or $97.

Looking at stickers broken down by sales, the top 10 ranked sticker sets have achieved an average of JPY 22.3 million [$215,001] in sales. Going further down the rankings, the top 30 ranked sticker sets have achieved an average of JPY 12.9 million [$124,319], the top 100 an average of JPY 6.5 million [$62,642], and the top 200 an average of JPY 4.1 million [$39,512] in sales.
