Pinterest is a visual social network, so the former head of image search at Google would seem to be an ideal fit as its new head of engineering.
Li Fan is indeed Pinterest’s new head of engineering, the company announced Tuesday, saying that she will lead its engineering team, which is responsible for scaling and ranking some 75 billion pins, as well as projects including object detection, visual search, camera search, buyable pins, multi-item cart checkout and video.
