Layoffs Loom At Tampa Tribune, WFLA

Layoffs are coming to both the Tampa Tribune and WFLA, the area’s NBC affiliate.

Both news outlets are owned by Media General, which announced a loss of $4.2 million in the first quarter of 2011; its Florida outlets lost $3.1 million, the St. Petersburg Times’ Eric Deggans reports.

Deggans says no details are forthcoming about how many layoffs there will be or from which departments they’ll come. But one source said they will not be cutting “boots on the street.”

Details should be coming next week.
