Layoffs At New York Fox Stations

Sister stations WNYW and WWOR, both Fox affiliates, laid off a total of 20 people Friday, the NY Daily News reported. The layoffs came in news production, sales, facilities, finance and public affairs.

15 of the cuts came from WNYW, and the remainder from WWOR. But WWOR has also recently not renewed the contracts of two correspondents and cut three news writers.

“This is a tough decision to make, and a sign of the economic times,” said a spokeswoman for the stations.

WNYW could cut its 10p.m. newscast to a half hour and kill its weekend newscasts, according to rumors reported by the Daily News.
