Lauren McCullough Social-Networks Her Way to AP Promotion

APLogo.jpgSocial media was the avenue Lauren McCullough used to earn a promotion, as The Associated Press elevated her to manager of social networks and news engagement at its new AP Nerve Center.

McCullough, who had been leading AP’s efforts to engage social networks, will now head its Social Network Center, directing editors there and companywide on mining content from social networks, promoting AP’s presence on them and providing feedback to news managers on high-interest topics. She will also continue setting standards and practices related to social networking.

McCullough most recently helped to lead efforts on the Sonia Sotomayor Supreme Court confirmation hearings blog and the Copenhagen Climate Conference blog. She joined AP as an online editor in 2006.

Managing editor Lou Ferrara said:

Lauren brings experience in social networking across formats that will enable the AP to grow in this new frontier of journalism. She understands the value of newsgathering within the social networks, as well as the need to have a voice within them.
