Laura Chick Is California's New Inspector General
Laura Chick is, in fact, California’s very first inspector general. It’s a position similar to to her current post as city controller, only there’s a lot more cabbage involved. Chick will be overseeing the disbursement of California’s $48 billion share of the federal stimulus package funds. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger showed astonishingly good sense, both in creating the post and assigning it to Chick. From the LA Times:
The governor, who created the $175,000 job by executive order, dismissed questions about whether the position was necessary when financial shortfalls are already causing state employees to be furloughed.
