Below is the memo from senior energy and environment editor, Kate Sheppard, who will be overseeing Laura.

Hi everyone,

I am happy to announce that Laura Barron-Lopez will be joining the DC bureau of The Huffington Post on March 23.

Laura comes to us from The Hill, where she’s covered energy and environment for the last year and a half. Before that, she wrote for Greenwire and interned at the Orange County Register, The Oregonian, and Roll Call. I’ve always been impressed with her work, and she’s quite prolific — sometimes covering five stories in a day at The Hill. She’s covered the inside story of how the Keystone XL climate votes went down and green groups planning to push Obama on pipelines, as well as breaking news on the administration delaying its immigration plans.

She’ll be a general Congressional reporter for us, taking Sabrina’s spot, and I am looking forward to having her pounding the marble in the Capitol for us.

Laura hails from Corona, Calif. and got her bachelor’s degree in political science from California State University, Fullerton.  She loves the Pacific Ocean, homemade Mexican food, coffee, and running, and is a self-described Lord of the Rings nerd and Batman fan. Needless to say, she’ll fit in great here and we’re excited to have her.

Laura later tweeted her excitement in joining the HuffPost team, while thanking The Hill for her time there:

Good luck from Fishbowl, Laura!
