KPCC Drops Patt Morrison, Expands Brand & Martínez

After six years on the air, KPCC (89.3 FM) has decided to drop the Patt Morrison show, according to a announcement Tuesday morning on the station’s website.

In regards to Patt Morrison’s future at the station, vice president for content Russ Stanton told the staff that “I am very pleased to report that Patt will be shifting into a new role here that draws on her unique experience and style.”

Below are the other programing changes that will take effect on Sept. 10:

    • Brand & Martínez, hosted by Madeleine Brand and A Martínez, will expand from one hour to two hours in the 9-11 a.m. timeslot.
    • AirTalk with Larry Mantle, KPCC’s long-running public affairs call-in show, will shift an hour and will air from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
    • The stations will add the BBC Newshour, a one-hour program featuring international news and analysis from the BBC World Service, from 1-2 p.m.
    • The World, which carries news, features, interviews and music from around the world, will run from 2-3 p.m. (The World, from PRI, currently airs on SCPR stations at noon weekdays.)

Update – 08/28/12: Responding to a flurry of listener reaction, Stanton has chimed in via the article comments with more info about Morrison’s future with the station:

Patt Morrison isn’t leaving. Beginning the week of Sept. 10, you’ll continue to hear her signature reports – and some new ones – in her same engaging voice and in her unique style. These segments will be spread out over more hours in our programming day and in many cases in front of larger audiences. Patt also will continue to host the wildly popular Comedy Congress live-event series and will be a visible (and audible) part of KPCC.
