KCRW’s Chris Douridas Walks Away From Car Accident

Every Saturday, from noon to 2 p.m., Chris Douridas reminds listeners that he still possesses one of the greatest dulcet-tone DJ voices to ever grace the airwaves of KCRW-FM. His soothing, cadenced set summaries and about-town observations go hand-in-hand with a musical vibe that is as smooth as a Malibu sunset.

So it was quite jarring to hear the accomplished soundtrack and iTunes consultant, halfway through his December 18th show, transition to some uncommon news in typical, mellow fashion. Recounted the DJ:

I’m kind of liking the rain, but it is kind of treacherous at times, so be careful. I was actually in a car accident, last night, on the way home from Hotel Cafe, and not quite sure what shape my car is in. But I know I’m kind of like, I don’t know…

If I’m an old house, my floors are creaking and my doors are squeaking. I’m not quite together, but… I walked away from it. Just be careful. It’s slick… something to be negotiated carefully.

As anyone in LA well knows, whenever it rains heavily here, the slippery roads become even more treacherous because of the way many local drivers fail to adapt to the wet driving conditions. Douridas was on his way back Friday night from Hotel Cafe’s ten-year anniversary party. We’re relieved to hear that he is OK.
