Here’s one way to beat the print newspaper downturn. Target a very narrow niche in Europe and China, and hire Karl Lagerfeld as your namesake editor-in-chief.
Per a report in Women’s Wear Daily, The Karl Daily is set to roll out in seven European cities where the fashion icon has retail locations, September 20:
A comic strip, street-style photos and a list of hot spots round out the “satirical” broadsheet, which carries four pages of advertising for Lagerfeld brands. Tongue-in-cheek elements include fictional personals and Choupette, the couturier’s pet cat, serving as guest editor and reporter.
We can only imagine what’s going to happen when Grumpy Cat gets wind of Choupette’s new title. Heck, if we were one of the folks helping KL with the paper, we might even stir that up. After all, nothing moves newspapers – even free, promotional, satirical ones – like a good old-fashioned catfight.
