Mobile gameplay sharing network Kamcord has announced the launch of Version 2.0 of its social networking app, which allows users to view gameplay videos recorded with Kamcord in a variety of mobile games. In the new version of Kamcord, users have the ability to chat with their fellow gamers, post “likes” and comments on videos, and follow the best players from their favorite mobile apps. It’s like Instagram, but for mobile game videos.

These updates were made possible, in part, by the $7.1 million in Series A funding Kamcord secured in May 2014, in a round led by Translink Capital. Since May 1, Kamcord’s video share rate has grown by 4x, with over 1 hour of video uploaded every minute.

Over 14 million videos have been shared to Kamcord since launch. These include general gameplay moments, recordings of walkthroughs and high-score runs in a variety of games, including My Talking Tom. That particular game saw over 1 million videos shared to Kamcord within the first week.

“We’ve learned from the biggest PC games like DoTA and League of Legends, as well our own SDK, that video is the No. 1 way to build a community around a game,” said Matt Zitzmann, CEO and co-founder of Kamcord. “With the traction our SDK has seen around the world, we’re excited to create an awesome community for the world’s 1 billion mobile gamers with the Kamcord app.”

As a growing social network, gamers can now create their own profiles, and can follow their favorite games to see the most recent tips and tricks videos, or simply the most popular uploads for those games. The app also provides access to install new games when users discover something they’d like to play.

“We’ve witnessed that people are really eager to share their videos and build a following,” added Zitzmann. “A lot of kids today grow up dreaming of being the next Pewdiepie or top Minecraft player instead of becoming a professional athlete or a famous actor. As a result, we’re seeing tons of players taking their Kamcord presence really seriously. The newest version of the app gives them a new platform to build their following and establish themselves as gaming celebrities.”

Kamcord is available to download for free on iOS. It’s currently featured as a Best New App in the Entertainment category on iTunes.
