Kabam, Lionsgate Bring The Hunger Games: Panem Rising to Mobile

Earlier this year, Kabam announced its partnership with Lionsgate to create a mobile game based on the popular film franchise The Hunger Games. The result of this partnership is The Hunger Games: Panem Rising, a new role-playing card game based on The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1, which will debut in theaters on November 21. The Hunger Games: Panem Rising is now available on iOS and Android devices, and sees players collecting units and exploring environments, while also defeating members of the Capitol’s army. By recruiting more units, players can increase the strength of their teams over time. Players begin the game by choosing their origin from either District 3 or District 7. District 3 is represented by technology, while District 7 is represented by lumber, and the choice players make determines their starting card in the game. Gameplay in The Hunger Games: Panem Rising is similar to that of Kabam’s recently released The Lord of the Rings: Legends of Middle-earth. Players complete missions by “exploring” environments using stamina. Exploration is accomplished by repeatedly tapping on the explore button, and players receive experience points, gold and even new troops by exploring. During missions, players may come across battle encounters, which see their team(s) of fighters automatically attack the enemy. Each character has a special skill that may activate during battle, from lowering the attack power of the enemy team to healing teammates, and so on. While players can watch a battle carry out in real time, they can also press a button to skip directly to the result. As players complete missions and level-up, they’ll unlock two additional team slots, for a total of three. Each team can have four members, and these members can be upgraded by fusing lesser cards into them. This increases a card’s health points and attack power, and, with enough fusions, will raise the card's overall level.Each card may also have combo attributes. If players can collect enough cards with the same combo attribute, and place them all on the same team, they unlock special skills that wouldn’t otherwise be available. For instance, a team with Katniss, Gale Hawthorne and Peeta Mellark unlocks the “Love Triangle” skill, which raises the team's overall attack power by 80 percent. It should be noted that some characters have more than one combo attribute, so players need to select which one to utilize. In addition to earning them for free while exploring, players can recruit new characters using either free or premium currency. Units recruited using premium currency tend to be stronger than those that are free. Finally, a real-time chat system is available for social interaction among players. "As one of the most popular film franchises in history, Kabam knew we had to deliver an experience that not only dived deep into The Hunger Games universe but was also fun to play,” said Mike Li, co-founder and general manager of Kabam’s Beijing Studio, in a statement. "From exploring Districts to recruiting and collecting fan-favorite characters from all three films such as Katniss, Peeta and Gale, fans will appreciate The Hunger Games: Panem Rising's authenticity and enjoy the strategic gameplay.” The Hunger Games: Panem Rising is available to download for free on the iTunes App Store and Google Play.
