Jim VandeHei’s New Media Venture: Axios

It's going to be WAY better than all other media companies.

The subscription-based news company from former Politico CEO Jim VandeHei has a name: Axios.

Vanity Fair reports that the word Axios means “worthy” in Greek. The site’s mission statement is “Media is broken—and too often a scam,” which is unintentionally hilarious. All media is broken and a scam…. Except Axios! Looks like Axios will be as self-important as we all had hoped.

Axios will launch in late January 2017, with a tech-focused newsletter by Dan Primack coming earlier. Another newsletter, on the business and politics of health care, will be written by David Nather. Former Politico staffer Mike Allen will also pen a newsletter.

“We are a new media company delivering vital, trustworthy news and analysis in the most efficient, illuminating and shareable ways possible,” read a statement on Axios. “We offer a mix of original and smartly narrated coverage of media trends, tech, business and politics with expertise, voice AND smart brevity — on a new and innovative mobile platform. At Axios — the Greek word for worthy — we provide only content worthy of people’s time, attention and trust.”
