HuffPost is an outlet that has been as consistent in its disdain of President Trump as the New York Daily News. So on one level, this is perfect media symmetry.
Jim Rich, who as the paper’s former editor in chief oversaw many a scathing front-page “wood” assailing then-presidential hopeful Donald J. Trump, has filled a top-level vacancy at HuffPost. He starts as executive editor May 15. From today’s announcement:
“Jim is one of the most passionate news leaders out there,” said HuffPost editor in chief Lydia Polgreen. “He has a deep understanding of how to create journalism that connects with an audience not just in their minds but in their hearts. He is a gutsy tabloid editor in the best and truest sense, an embodiment of the shoe-leather approach we want to take in our reporting in this next era of HuffPost.”
Added Rich: “I am thrilled to join Lydia and HuffPost at this exciting and important time. Her vision for how a news organization should operate is inspiring. I have full confidence that HuffPost will become the standard for digital journalism under her watch, and I’m honored to be a part of that effort.”
Last fall, Rich penned a piece for HuffPost defending his approach at the Daily News. He succeeds Liz Heron, who left her executive editor post in October for a consulting role with the Knight Foundation.
