Jersey Shore Breaks Record For The Most Social TV Show Of All Time

Earlier this week we posted about the most social TV shows, letting you know that Family Guy, Basketball Wives and SpongeBob SquarePants were among the most social shows on television. Last night all that changed with the season 4 premiere of Jersey Shore.

Early last week we posted about the most social TV shows, letting you know that Family Guy, Basketball Wives and SpongeBob SquarePants were among the most social shows on television.  The season 4 premiere of Jersey Shore changed all that.  Last week’s show broke the all-time record for one-day social performance of a TV series.  Major props to Snookie, The Situation and the whole gang!

According to a report from SocialGuide, over 190,892 unique viewers were talking about Jersey shore, making close to 300,000 comments during the premiere.  A whopping 56 percent of the social audience for Jersey shore commented during airtime, and that was just during primetime.  SocialGuide told me via email that when all airtimes during the day were considered (not just the premiere), Jersey Shore had a record-breaking share of all uniques and comments made during all TV airtime, at 65 percent.

In addition to ranking #1 on the Primetime charts, Jersey Shore also ranked #1 for the most social Programs and Episodes.  MTV, which hosts the show, tops the most social Network charts as well.

SocialGuide recorded the record breaking activity surrounding last week’s episode of Jersey Shore via The Social 100, a new ranking of the most social TV programs and networks that they launched earlier this week.  It will be interesting to see if Jersey Shore stays on top throughout the entire fourth season.

Did you watch the premiere last week and, if so, did you talk about it on Twitter, Facebook or other networks?  Are you surprised that Jersey Shore is now officially the most social TV show of all time?  Share your thoughts in the comments below.
