One that's hand-written on beautiful stationery. </BWhat single person played the biggest role / had the biggest influence on your journalism career? My grandmother, Dorothy McCardle, who covered the first ladies from the Truman through Ford administrations for the Washington Post. Before that, she covered crime for the Philadelphia Inquirer. She died when I was 8, but left her memoirs, which read like a thriller novel. A courageous, fearless reporter. I want to be like her when I grow up. When's the last time you volunteered? Where? With two little kids at home, I have to sheepishly admit that it's been a while. I quit the Junior League when my 6-year-old was born. <Who is your favorite active journalist? Anne Hull. When I was a reporter in Florida and she was at the St. Pete Times, I became a groupie when she taught a feature-writing seminar at a Poynter workshop. I was so excited when she came to the Washington Post. Her writing just sings. Lane DeGregory, who still writes features at St. Pete, is cut from the same cloth. What did you have for breakfast? Rice Chex. What one toiletry item could you not live without? Just one? How about a toothbrush that holds shampoo in the handle? If you could have one superpower, which one would it be? To be in several places at once. Red or white wine? Red AND white wine. PG-13 or R? I'm a mom now. PG-13. Lincoln, Jefferson or Washington Memorial? Washington Monument. Leg or breast (chicken, of course) Leg. Friday night or Saturday night? Saturday night. "Wedding Crashers" or "Old School" Oh dear. I haven't seen either of them. The Palm or Cafe Milano? Cafe Milano. Yankees or Red Sox? I went to school in Massachusetts - Red Sox!! Jenna or Barbara? Jenna. McSteamy or McDreamy? I'm failing at pop culture - is there a difference? Leno or Letterman?
