It makes sense that in a town where Archibald Leach did business as Cary Grant and Bernie Schwartz became Tony Curtis, that a mob boss in hiding would opt for a marquee-worthy alias. Even when that marquee is nothing more than a Santa Monica apartment complex calling card.

But magazine writing professor and Boston Globe contributor Delia Cabe thinks there may be a cheeky undercurrent to the manner in which captured fugitive James “Whitey” Bulger and his moll chose to honor this age-old Hollywood tradition, as Charles and Carol Gasko.
