Porter Novelli hired Israel Mirsky to identify, leverage, and develop new communications tools in digital, according to a press release issued today by the big Omnicom (NYSE: OMC) shop. His title is executive VP, emerging media and technology, reporting to President Anthony Viceroy.

Viceroy’s quote is a hefty edict, “he will be instrumental in helping the agency shape the future of brand-consumer interaction.” Mirsky was previously director of marketing at Xplusone, or [x+1], which offers predictive optimization technology to “help marketers connect with consumers in more meaningful, actionable ways, delivering content and offers where they’re most relevant.” Prior to [x+1], Mirsky was chief strategy officer for NOM.

Unlike many other large firms, Porter Novelli does not have a separately named and branded social media division.
