ISIS NFC Mobile Commerce: Not in 2011

Near Field Communications (NFC) is a short range wireless technology designed for secure mobile e-commerce. Some people (including me) believed that 2011 would be the year of NFC. However, as 2010 came to a close, it started to look like the NFC effort was much too fragmented. There were at least three separate projects by groups of major players that I reported on here.

We probably should not be surprised that this fragmented approach might not be good for getting NFC deployed in 2011. Based on this report from Reuters, it looks like the effort to get NFC implemented may be unraveling.
