Internal Communicators Get To Tell People When They’re Laid Off

This can’t be the best part of Laura Ariganello’s job. She’s director of internal communications at Starbucks, and she (along with other employees from PR, HR, payroll, etc) was tasked with telling Starbucks employees that they were being canned. How’d she do it? By organizing face to face meetings to answer employee questions, by ensuring that information on COBRA, unemployment, etc., were at employees’ fingertips, and by staffing an e-mail box with enough people to answer individual employee questions within a day or so.
