Instagram Simplifies Navigation in Its Threads From Instagram Stand-Alone App

A Status tab joins the Everyone Else tab that was added last month

Instagram added a Status tab to its standalone Threads From Instagram application Thursday, giving users an easier way to stay up to date and interact with their friends’ status updates and Stories.

A new tabbed navigation system was also developed to help people move between those sections.

And the app got a new inbox tab last month, Everyone Else, so that users could see all of their other Direct messages and chat threads from Instagram within the Threads app. This allowed Instagram users to share photos and videos to their Stories and the Threads app simultaneously.

Instagram introduced Threads From Instagram in October 2019, billing it as a “camera-first messaging application that helps you stay connected to your close friends,” combining Snapchat-like functionality with the Close Friends sharing option it debuted in November 2018.

However, the app has had only minimal success.

The iOS version of Threads From Instagram is No. 63 in the photo and video category, but only No. 967 on Appfigures’ list of the top 1,000 free apps on the iTunes App Store.

And on Google Play, Threads From Instagram did not crack the top 200 free apps, although its listing said it has been downloaded more than 1 million times. David Cohen is editor of Adweek's Social Pro Daily.
