Instagram Reels: How to Trim a Clip

Make a video shorter.

Reels enables Instagram users to record and edit 15-second multi-clip videos Instagram

Instagram recently debuted Reels, a feature that allows users to create 15-second videos that contain one or more clips. After you record a clip, if you decide the clip was too long, you have the option to trim it to make it shorter. Our guide will show you how this is done.

Note: These screenshots were captured in the Instagram application on iOS.

Step 1: After you record a clip in Reels, tap the left arrow (“<“) to the left of the capture button near the bottom of the screen.

Step 2: Tap the scissors icon.

Step 3: At the bottom of the screen, drag the ends of the slider toward the center of the screen to trim the beginning and/or end of the clip to the desired position(s). That is, if you drag the right end of the slider to the left, you’ll trim off the end of the clip. If you drag the left end of the slider to the right, you’ll trim off the beginning of the clip.

Step 4: Tap “Trim” in the top-right corner of the screen when you’re done trimming your clip.
