Instagram Is Trying to Help Out Parents With Teens on Its Network

The photo- and video-sharing app introduced A Parent’s Guide

Teens have flocked to Instagram in recent years, but do their parents understand how the Facebook-owned photo- and video-sharing network is being used by their offspring?

Instagram chief operating officer Marne Levine introduced A Parent’s Guide, a new resource for parents of teens who use Instagram.

Levine said in a blog post that there are three primary areas of focus for A Parent’s Guide: privacy, interactions and time spent on the network.

A Parent’s Guide includes basic information about the Instagram application, descriptions of available tools and a discussion guide for parents and their teens to discuss the latter’s use of Instagram.

Levine wrote that the questions in the discussion guide were developed in collaboration with education and social media expert Ana Homayoun with the goal of helping parents ensure that their teens are using Instagram in a positive way.
