Instagram recently launched Reels, its take on TikTok. The feature allows users to record and share 15-second videos containing one or more clips. Our guide will show you how to use Reels in the Instagram application.

Note: These screenshots were captured in the Instagram app on iOS.

Step 1: On the Instagram Stories Camera, swipe from right to left on the words at the bottom of the screen to move from “Story” to “Reels.”

Step 2: If this is the first time you’ve used the Reels feature, you’ll see a brief introduction to it. Tap “Get Started” to move on.

Step 3: Tap the capture button at the bottom of the screen to begin recording a clip. Note: You can customize your video before recording. For instance, tap the “Effects” button on the left side of the screen to add an effect to your video before you record.

Step 4: Tap the capture button again when you want to stop recording.

Step 5: From here, you can repeat Steps 3-4 to add additional clips to your video before sharing it (so long as your video remains under the 15-second limit). Or, you can tap the “<” symbol to the left of the capture button to delete any clips you’ve already recorded. When you’re done recording, tap the “>” symbol to the right of the capture button.

Step 6: You’ll see a preview of your video as it will appear to viewers. You can add text, stickers and more to your video before sharing it by tapping the buttons at the top of the screen. When you’re ready to share your post, tap the “>” button in the bottom-right corner of the screen.

Step 7: Tap “Write a caption…” if you want to add a caption to your video. By default, your video will also be shared to your feed, but you can tap the toggle to the right of “Also Share to Feed” to stop that from happening. When you’re ready to post your video, tap “Share” at the bottom of the screen.
