Earlier this year, Instagram rolled out the ability for users to video chat through Instagram Direct. Our guide will show you how to start a video chat in the Instagram application.

Step 1: On your Instagram home feed, tap the paper airplane icon in the top-right corner of the screen to go to your message inbox. Note: You can also get to your inbox by swiping from right to left on your home feed.
Step 2: Tap the conversation containing the user(s) you wish to video chat with. Note: If you don’t have an active conversation with the user(s) you want to chat with, tap the “+” in the top-right corner of the screen to create a conversation with them.
Step 3: Tap the video camera icon in the top-right corner of the screen to start a video chat. This will “call” the user(s) and ask them to participate in the chat.
