Instagram recently introduced a Nametag feature, which gives each user a scannable code that other users can scan to go to their profile. Users can customize their Nametag in a variety of ways. Our guide will show you how this is done.
Note: These screenshots were captured in the Instagram application on iOS.
Step 1: Tap the profile button in the bottom-right corner of the screen.
Step 2: Tap the three horizontal lines in the top-right corner of the screen.
Step 3: Tap “Nametag” near the top of the screen.
From here, you can customize your Nametag in three different ways. The Nametag can have an emoji background, a selfie background or a colorful background. To switch between these three options, tap the button at the top of the screen that says “Emoji,” “Selfie” or “Color,” depending on the mode you’re currently in.
Here’s how the three options work.
When you enter Emoji mode, the Nametag will automatically have an emoji in the background. If you want to change it to a different emoji, tap anywhere on the screen, and then select an emoji from the menu that appears. Note: You can tap the search bar at the top of the menu to search for an emoji manually.
When you enter the selfie mode, the selfie camera will automatically load in the center of the screen, with an accessory item in front of it (for instance, a mustache, heart eyes or glasses). Tap the screen to change which accessory is in front of the selfie camera. You can tap multiple times to cycle through all of the available options. When you’re ready to take a selfie, tap the capture button at the bottom of the screen.
Once you’ve taken the selfie, it will appear in the Nametag’s background. Tap the screen to change which accessory is in front of the selfie.
If you ever want to take a new selfie, tap the “Retake” button in the top-right corner of the screen.
Tap anywhere on the screen to change the color of the background. You can tap multiple times to cycle through all of the available options.
When you’re done customizing your Nametag, tap the X in the top-left corner of the screen to leave the Nametag screen.
