Inside a Fashion Shindig at Benetton

Last night, Benetton Georgetown and MoKi Media threw an invite-only party to showcase the Autumn-Winter 2013 collection. The cast of characters included Top Chef Spike Mendelsohn, BET Networks' EVP and CFO Michael Pickrum, Kate Bennett from Washingtonian, author and reporter Helena Andrews, Gilt City's Marissa Schneider, Washington Redskin Reed Doughty, Bill Hamid from DC United, and D.C. personality Susanna Quinn. They were all dressed to the nines in Benetton's new line. The event included complimentary drinks and hors d'oeuvres, as well as a sweet 20 percent off on all evening shopping and a $500 gift card giveaway. Between photo ops with DC's fashionable favorites, the D.J. and open bar on the second floor, and the kid-friendly third floor, there was something for everyone at Benetton's soiree. Gift bags were even given to the media at the end of the night, which is always awesome. Each bag came complete with a Benetton fall catalogue and a pair of Benetton-themed headphones. Find out what local celeb showed up, whose book was optioned by Fox Searchlight, how the food was, etc... Kim, a partygoer, said she enjoyed sipping red wine while scoping out the new collection. "It's pretty brave of them to serve red wine around all of their clothes," she jokingly told FishbowlDC, "but I'm all for it!" Also in attendance were NBC4's Chief Meteorologist/Clark Kent lookalike Doug Kammerer and his wife Holly, who are close with Susanna. "It's great to come and meet people at an event like this, its just really a great way to enjoy each other and enjoy Washington," said Kammerer. When asked who he was wearing, the mild-mannered meteorologist laughed, looked down at his jacket, shrugged, and laughed again. He and Redskins player Doughty are also pals and have worked together to benefit the National Kidney Foundation. FishbowlDC also got the chance to catch up with former Politico reporter and author Andrews, who's been pretty busy lately. Since leaving Politico, she wrote her first book, which was called Bitch is the New Black and was published by HarperCollins in 2010. The book rights for Bitch have since been optioned by Fox Searchlight. She now has a movie based on her book is in the works. Not to mention, Andrews also has a new book in its early stages. She told FishbowlDC: "My first book was about searching for love and grown up life, trying to piece everything together in your late 20's. My second book is going to be about 'What if you found a lot of the things you've been dreaming about in life?'" When asked if it's a sequel to her first book, she replied, "It might be!" When asked if he tried any of the food, Mendelsohn chuckled and said he he hadn't. "I'm still full from working and eating all day," he added. Bourbon glazed tenderloin with fried tomato, truffled chicken pot pie, and lobster fritters were just a few of the tiny, tasty samplings served throughout the three story building. Even though the food was bite-sized, trays and trays of each hors d'oeuvres were continuously being brought out and served. Needless to say, it was an easy way to make a meal for yourself if you came out on an empty stomach and had no shame in picking the food servers' trays dry.
