In Memoriam: Lonnie R. Merriett

    Lonnie R. Merriett
    , 59,an award-winning sales manager for CQ Press’s Government and Professional Division, died of a heart attack March 13 in Germantown, MD, where he lived.

    Mr. Merriett was a long-time volunteer and active in his community and church. He was a deacon of Montgomery Baptist Church, in Montgomery Village, MD,and servedon Montgomery County’s Department of Health and Human Services and Black Ministers Conference and on the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce.

    He also did volunteer workfor the Jail Ministries at the Clarksburg Correctional Facility and for many years advocated for improved health carefor underprivileged and minority communities.He pursued his community-serviceefforts in his work environment as well, serving as a memberof CQ Presss public service group, which contributes to Historically Black Colleges and Universities and toother causes, includingHurricane Katrina victims.

    Mr. Merriett received a bachelor’s degree at the University of Michigan and a graduate certificate from the University of Southern Californias School of Business.

    Survivors include his wife of35 years, Carolyn Merriett, and two adult children, Lorne Merriett and Lonna Merriett.
