If You Only See One Movie This Weekend

All the visually-oriented people we know are raving about the highly-anticipated Russian horror flick “Night Watch.” The opening limited engagement is extremely limited–one theater each in LA and NY for two weeks only–but it’s scheduled for wide release on March 3. Writer/director Timur Bekmambetov didn’t have much of a budget but apparently it doesn’t show; the effects are used, well, effectively. Of note are the subtitles, usually a poorly-crafted afterthought to a foreign film; here they interact with the characters or are placed dynamically within the frame.

See the trailer here. On the official site you can watch the entire movie in 2.5 minutes (something we definitely haven’t seen before). If you like what you see, this is your lucky day–it’s the first of a trilogy.
