If a Tweet is Heard in a Forest, It's Probably an Art Installation
Rachel Knoll is applying the old philosophical question, if a tree falls in the forest… to Twitter. Her art installation uses text to speech technology to play tweets with ‘nobody listens’ in a humanless Washington state forest. It’s sad, poetic, and more accurate than intended.
Social media is used to connect but concurrently serves as a disconnect from social life outside of the virtual world. In Listen and Repeat, a modified megaphone uses text to speech capabilities to recite tweets composed with the tag ‘nobody listens’ from the social media website Twitter.
