The Huffington Post has hit 1 billion pageviews for the first time, with 37 million unique visitors, and 5.1 million comments in August.
The new stats come from a press release published in AllThingsD, along with announcements that HuffPo is acquiring the community discussion board Localocracy, and launching four new sites: Huff/Post50, HuffPost Gay Voices, HuffPost Weddings, and HuffPost High School.
The new sites are the latest of 21 new sections since AOL bought HuffPo for $315 million in March.
Localocracy, a Massachusetts-based “online town common,” encourages citizens to engage in local issues, according to the release.
