HP Slate in the Wild: More Interesting That I Thought it Would Be

One slate I did not see during my visit to the Microsoft Store in Bellevue Square on Sunday was the new $800 HP Slate 500. This Windows 7 based tablet has an 8.9-inch display, 2GB RAM and up to 64GB SSD (Solid State Drive). However, my friend Sven received his Slate 500 just before leaving to attend the Microsoft MVP Summit we are both attending this week. Sven was kind enough to let me take a quick look at his new slate and its portabe docking station.
As you can see the HP Slate 500’s docking station provides an HDMI display port as well as two USB ports and a DVI display port.
The Slate 500 was a lot more responsive than I expected from a computer using a single core Atom N540 processor. I suspect some of its speed can be attributed to a reasonably fast Solid State Drive. Sven himself has not used his new slate long enough to have formed a complete opinion. But, he appears to be quite pleased by its performance, size, and display quality so far.
