How Tweet It Is: Twitter Is Profitable

The multiyear deals microblogging service Twitter reached with Google and Microsoft to make its tweets searchable by their respective search engines drove Twitter to profitability, Bloomberg BusinessWeek reports.

Sources told Bloomberg BusinessWeek the deals making tweets available on Google and Bing brought in approximately $15 million and $10 million, respectively, and Twitter also reduced expenses by using its market clout to reach more favorable agreements with wireless networks covering tweets sent via text message.

Twitter co-founder Biz Stone would not comment to Bloomberg BusinessWeek about the company’s finances, saying in an e-mail, “We’re thrilled about the partnerships we’ve formed this year and we’re looking forward to opening Twitter even more in the future.”
