How To Tell When Executives Are Lying

For business reporters, the Holy Grail for stories would be knowing when a company’s top executive was lying to you or investors. It would help develop stories, and shine light on the companies that are struggling. But there’s no way to really tell, right?

Well a couple Stanford professors set out to see if you could, and they found some normal tics that lying execs often exhibit. According to The Wall Street Journal, the professors studied 30,000 earnings transcripts from 2003 to 2007 and looked at when companies had to later revise its original analysis.
