How To Pitch: Harvard Business Review

hbr.jpg’s “How To Pitch” articles have been a staple of the site for many years. While they are traditionally geared towards freelancers looking to get their byline into a publication, PR professionals we’ve spoken to have often found them useful as well, in terms of pitching the publication on behalf of their client or brand.

Now, we’ve expanded into “How To Pitch for PR” to include specific information for the PR audience. Our latest edition is Harvard Business Review. Here is an excerpt:

“We’re not news chasers,” she says. “We want tailored pitches on new ideas or concepts. We don’t cover new products, and we don’t write about companies,” says deputy editor Karen Dillon.

According to Dillon, a recent feature on executive compensation began as a publicist pitch. In this instance, a senior-level practitioner leveraged her existing relationship with Dillon and simply gave her a call. “We had a good conversation and she was able to set up an interview. That worked,” she said.
